2022 ripples

You may remember some years ago Briege, a friend of mine, took our first competed kits to Kisumu near Nairobi and they were distributed to pregnant and post natal mums there. She was there for a month as a volunteer midwife, working with a charity called Positive Aid. She hadn't known about the kits but once she saw them she was determined to take some with her . . . a little ripple!

We helped 20 women on that visit. The content in the DFG Ambassador for Womens' Health training has helped many more. Niki Hickley then took some more kits to the same area when she was traveling nearby.

Over the years since Briege and I have exchanged messages and chats about the kits; our Stitch group; the Kisumu ladies etc... How could we help more Kisumu ladies? Could we make and send more kits to be distributed locally, could she get kids made in Australia?

DFG introduced zoning, and we could no longer send kits to Kenya, but we could support Local Enterprises - In the first lockdown we bought some kits through the Kisumu Local Enterprise, and they were distributed in partnership with a UK charity "Kisumu Children" which works in a Kisumu school (sponsoring uniforms so children can attend school) ... More ripples, and more women receiving the AWH information.

I have recently received an email from Positive Aid who have now established a partnership with Day For Girls Australia - In order to supply every member of Positive Aid's pregnancy clubs with a kit before they birth, they launched a successful joint fundraising campaign with DFGAL. Drawing on their combined support bases, they raised enough money to order the first batches of kits to support these women . . . more ripples!!!

16 - Post Covid (we hope)

In 2022 we have returned to meeting every month and have a good number of sewing machines and overlockers and people that can use them.  we are very happy to teach new people too!

We have registered as a formal Day For Girls group - and have a new email address:

wraysburyuk@daysforgirls.org

(dont worry, the old one still works!)

Out kits are being assessed for "Gold Standard" quality

We are becoming more focussed in our making - we seem to count componants every session and are working on producing / buying the items we are low on to be able to pack a good number of kits.

Each kits costs about £9.85 to make so fund raising is important.  We try and attend most of the local fairs and are happy to come and talk to groups - just get in touch if you are interested

Not much else has changed - we meet at Champney Hall (Horton) on the last Saturday of the month and you are very welcome to join us or pop in for a cuppa!
